It's Advent—that wonderful time of the year leading up to the celebration of Christ’s Birth! There are a lot of participation opportunities around this month—opportunities to prepare you spiritually for the new year. For the women of this Parish, consider joining Mother Jane in attending the Women’s Ecumenical Candlelight Advent Service, Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 7pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville.
Speaking of the New Year, our Liturgical year actually starts with the First Sunday of Advent which was November 27th. We are entering Year A (of Years A, B, C) with the majority of Gospels coming from Matthew.
I encourage you in the midst of the shopping, cooking, school celebrations, parties, and work that you take some time out of your schedule and remember the reason for the season. Advent is indeed a season of awaiting Jesus’ birth as we celebrate life together. On December 10 from 2-4pm, join us as we explore the Daily offices in our Book of Common Prayer. Our Advent Book club “The Journey” also continues thru Dec. 20th.
The annual Blue Christmas service will be held at 4pm on Sunday, December 11th. Please join us and give your sadness at this time of year to the Christ Child. And of course we hope to see you at the various Christmas services this year. The Children’s Christmas pageant will be at the 5pm service on Saturday 12/24, Christmas Eve. See your Sunday school teacher for rehearsal times. There is also a 10pm service with music Christmas Eve and on Christmas day is a combined 9am Rite I Eucharist. Also we are planning on the annual New Year’s Eve service Pray before you Party at 5pm on December 31st. Sunday New Year’s Day we will resume our regular Sunday service schedule at 8 and 10 am.
We look forward to your participation and help in our ministries this coming year. Consider how you want to participate here in 2017. St. Andrew Church is a gift to all of us. One that we all need to care for and help out in. If you have not made your 2017 pledge, please fill out the form and get it in to the office. The Vestry finance committee is already working on making the best budget to present to the vestry in early January. I want to thank all of you for what you do here. I am so blessed to be here with you at St. Andrews and I thank God for all of you.
Have a Blessed Advent, Christmas and 2017!
