One goal in Lent is to continue our Spiritual contemplation and growth. There are several opportunities for this in March at St. Andrew. We continue our Instructed Eucharist time at the beginning of the service thru March 6th. Also the Adult formation class 9 am on Sunday is using a good series on forgiveness called “Embracing Forgiveness: What it is and What it isn’t” by Barbara Caw-thorne Crafton. That will conclude the 5th Sunday of Lent March 13.
During Lent every Wednesday night we offer 6:30pm Evening Prayer and 7:00pm Stations of the Cross. The week after Lent we will have a two-part series offered at two sessions on the Northumbrian Saints. Part I will feature St Hilda of Whitby and St. Bede and Part II will feature St. Cuthbert and St. Aiden both associated with the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and the Lindisfarne Gospels. Part I is offered Tuesday March 29 at 6:30-8:00 and repeated on Saturday April 2 from 2:30-4pm. Part II is offered Tuesday 6:30-8pm and repeated on Saturday April 9 from 2:30-4pm. I am also offering a “Welcome to the Episcopal Church” overview on Wednesday Eves March 30 and April 6th from 6:30-8:30pm for those newer to the Episcopal Church or for those seasoned with questions.
I also want to encourage all of you to attend the annual Italian Feast March 19th and bring your friends. Turn your money in and unused tickets as soon as possible to the office and sign up to bring a desert and to help the day of the event. This is the major fundraiser for the year so it is important that we all support it. This year promises to have some very special Silent Auc-tion items and we always have great food.
Hoping this Lenten season is a time of peace and reflection for each of you. I always encourage everyone to make a special effort in Lent not to just to give up something but to add some kind of Spiritual discipline whether praying, reading the Bible more, or using one of the mediation booklets we have available for you on the hall table. Pick one up and give it a try.
Please see later in this newsletter a list of upcoming events and Holy Week services. If you have any suggestions or concerns, please let me or your Vestry representative know. Also look on the bulletin board for monthly postings of Vestry minutes and the treasurer’s report.
See you in church. God bless you.
