It’s my favorite time of year—back to school and back to church school

It’s my favorite time of year—back to school and back to church school. Even if your life doesn’t revolve around a school calendar we restart religious education and activities here at St Andrew Parish after midmonth. We will have Homecoming Weekend September 17th and 18th with coffee hours after each service–sponsored by the Vestry. Plan to stay and chat with some of your vestry representatives. They are doing a super job this year and will be looking to meet you all. There will be ministry sign ups available and then Choir and Sunday school will start in earnest for youth and adults September 25th at 9:00 am. This fall the adult Sunday school will focus on the Letter to the Hebrews. So please join us in the Parish Hall.

A big THANK YOU to all who helped in any way with Elijah’s Mantle shoe drive that was on Saturday August 6th. Even with our date change to serve the community’s earlier back to school time, we served many families with a total of over 70 pairs of shoes given. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing Elijah’s Mantle volunteers headed by Margie Jobes and the UP Church volunteers. Also this congregation was amazing. Many additional donations were given to purchase shoes along with all the shoes brought in. Several volunteers from the congregation who don’t monthly work at Elijah’s Mantle came out for the shoe drive so we had many helpers. Again, thanks to all of you who participated in this event in any way from donation to help on site. I know we made a difference for a significant number of families.

A few special THANK YOUs: Thank you to the volunteers who have done some very special yard work this summer Jim Rott (chief mower during Jim’s recovery), Margie and Jim Jobes, and Glenda Moss. I also want to thank Bill Dani who cleaned the church during Jim’s recovery. We pray for Jim’s continued healing.

There are several other activities in the works for this fall. I will be offering another “Welcome to the Episcopal Church” intro class on September 26th. Please sign up for this so I know how many handouts to make. Book club will restart later in September. October brings a very important class in a new format I am trying. I call it Getting One’s Ducks in a Row: Health Care Power of Attorney and Planning for All Adults. On Saturday October 22 and repeated on Monday October 24th, we will do a noon-2:00 pm lunch and learn session—bring a bag lunch (drinks and dessert provided) and we will review health care power of attorney and get introduced to a funeral planning form. This is a great gift to your family if something ever happens to you. I am always willing to sit down and plan with anyone and I’ll make you a couple of copies for you and your family and we’ll keep one at church. All adults any age need to do this.

Also look for an Advent series and Advent Retreat coming up in November and December. Special Note: Our annual Blessings of the Animals is at a new day and time this year. I am trying this to see if we get an even better attendance—please come and invite your neighbors—it’s a special service for our special friends. Blessing of the Animals is Sunday, October 2, at 2:00 pm. Have a wonderful fall season! God bless you!

Peace, Mother Jane†
