October 20th is our 110th Anniversary at St. Andrew! We will celebrate at the 5:00pm Service with Bishop Lee followed by a dinner in the Parish Hall. Highlights will be confirmations and a rededication of our Library. Sign up to bring a dish to the St. Andrew family celebration.
It is Fall activities time at St. Andrew Parish. The Blessing of the Animals is Sunday, Oct 1 at 2pm outside on the Park St. lawn/driveway. Rain option is the Parish Hall. This special opportunity to bless God’s creatures that give us so much comfort is one of my favorite services in the year. If you don’t think your animal will take kindly to other animals bring a picture and I will gladly bless the animal “long distance.”
This month the educational offering is a two-part series in honor of the 500th year of the Reformation. Part I is an overview of the Reformation starting with Luther. This will be offered Wednesday evening October 4 6:30-8:30pm and repeated on October 7th from 2-4pm. Part II is an overview of specifically the Anglican Reformation and is offered Wednesday October 11th 6:30- 8:30pm and repeated on October 14th from 2 -4pm. I have also been asked to teach about the communion sacrament with a couple of children. If anyone would like to bring their child, we will meet at 11:00am on October 14. Please let Charles in the office or myself know if your child is attending.
We are planning another Advent book series. We will explore “All I Want for Christmas: Opening the Gifts of God’s Grace” book and DVD presentation on the Monday evenings of November 20, 27; December 4, 12 (Tuesday), and 18 at 6:30–8:00pm. Please sign up later this month to receive a book. Also, the Adult Sunday school is studying the journey of Moses, so please join us 9:00-9:50am.
The Annual Diocesan Convention will be held in November on the 17 and 18th. I’m required to attend and we as a Parish receive three lay delegate votes. Your representatives to convention this year are Jim Jobes, Mike Rollins, and Betty Garrett. We will be attending a Deanery prep meeting to review resolutions coming before the convention at St. Lawrence Libertyville on October 27 at 10:00am.
All Saints Sunday will be November 5th (always the first Sunday after All Saints Day, November 1st). Please place friends and family names of those who have gone before on the signup sheet to be read that weekend. Start signing up on Sunday the 8th of October by the guest registry.
By now you should all know that I have made the difficult decision to retire at the end of the year. We have much to do together before then.
See you in Church. May God bless you!
Peace, Rev. Jane +
