November is always a good time to think about our blessings

November is always a good time to think about our blessings and give thanks to God for all of them. In November there are several opportunities here at St. Andrew for us to give thanks for what we have received.

Sunday November 19th at 3:00pm we will join with other Grayslake churches in celebrating a Community Thanksgiving this year at the United Protestant Church. This joint service is sponsored by the UP church, Shepherd of the Lakes, St. Gilbert’s and St. Andrew. Please plan now to join the Grayslake community at this special service of Thanksgiving. There is no Wednesday service that week at St. Andrew so join us Sunday.

I am getting all the trainings for the various ministries completed prior to the end of the year. LEMs and Lectors were trained in October. Ushers are scheduled for after the 10:00am service on December 3rd and on Sunday afternoon November 5th, from 4:00-6:00pm. Deb Walsh and I will train the acolytes and have the annual acolyte pizza and ice cream party. Looking for a few parents to help cook pizzas while we teach.

We can show gratitude to God for all God does in our lives and in our church by pledging our time, talent, and treasure here at St. Andrew. I have been so privileged to serve this church for 11½ years and give thanks for all of you, our programs, and our ministries. This year Stewardship Weekend is November 11th and 12th. You should shortly receive a Stewardship letter and form. Please plan on returning your form in the collection plate the weekend of Nov. 11/12 at the various services or return your form by mail or drop it by the office.

Based on this year’s pledges the new budget for 2018 will be formulated by a committee of the Vestry starting later this month to be approved in January. This year your donation will be especially critical as the Vestry and Search committee will begin the search process for a new Rector. Other highlights of November into Advent season to look forward to: We are doing a 5-part Advent Book Club using the book “All I Want for Christmas: Opening the Gifts of God’s Grace” starting on Mondays, 11/20, 11/27, 12/4 12/12 (Tuesday), 12/18 from 6:30-8pm. Sign up soon so you get the book. Watch to sign up for Saturday December 2nd, an Advent mini retreat focusing on our Relationship to the Incarnational God, scheduled 2:00-4:45pm.

Presented by guest speaker Pastor Keith Cerk. Blue Christmas Service will be 4:00pm on December 17th. Look at the calendar and coming events later in this newsletter to mark the dates down now.

See you in Church. May God bless you!

Peace, Rev. Jane +
