It’s Time to Restart School and Religious Education and Activities

Well it is time to restart school and restart religious education and activities here at St. Andrew Parish after mid-month. We will have Homecoming Weekend September 16th and 17th with coffee hours after each service sponsored by the Vestry. Plan to stay and chat with some of your vestry representatives. They look forward to speaking with you all. There will be ministry sign ups available and then Sunday school will start in earnest for youth and adults September 24th at 9:00am. The adult Sunday school this fall will focus on the story of Moses.

A big THANK YOU to all who helped in any way with Elijah’s Mantle shoe drive that was on Saturday August 5th (please see pictures in the Saltire). We gave out 177 pairs of shoes and more at the “store” the week after. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing volunteers. Again, thanks to all who participated in this event in anyway from donation to help on site. I know we made a difference for a significant number of families. Plans are in the making to honor this ministry in December as it winds down. We are not serving as many people as other ministries have emerged and it is increasingly difficult to have enough volunteers. Please keep this ministry in your prayers and be praying and thinking as to what will the congregation focus on as an outreach ministry.

Thank you to all the gardening ministers—those who have taken care of our grounds and plantings and the Prayer garden. It really looks nice around here. Thank you to all who have been working in the library to reorganize it over the last few months. We have a new back window, there are more outlets, a new table and lamp and new curtains on the way. Thank you to our generous donors. If you would like to contribute to the library back window we have had $2,000 of the almost $8,000 cost already donated.

There are several other activities in the works for this fall. Book club will restart September 18. October 1 will be the Pet Blessing. Sunday afternoon worked well last year so plan on 2:00pm Sunday, October 1.

October brings very important classes to celebrate the 500th anniversary year of the Reformation. I will do a two-part overview of the reformation. Part I will be about the whole Reformation, and Part II will focus on our own Anglican Reformation (a lot more than the politics of Henry VIII!). Part I will be offered Wednesday evening Oct 4th 6:30-8:30pm and repeated Saturday Oct 7th 2:00-4:00pm. Part II will be Wednesday Oct 11th 6:30–8:30pm and repeated Saturday October 14th, 2:00-4:00pm. Sign up on the bulletin board so I can make the appropriate number of handouts.

October brings our 110th Anniversary Celebration of St. Andrew Episcopal Church. The actual anniversary is Friday, October 20th, but we will celebrate with our Bishop, Jeffrey Lee at the 5:00 pm service on October 21. Bishop Lee will confirm seven people and will rededicate our Library. There will be a dinner to follow. Plan now to attend and watch for a sign-up sheet to help and bring food.

Have a wonderful fall season! God bless you!
